DRUG NAME: CLARITIN� (SCHERING)
COMMON NAME: LORATADINE
WHAT IS THIS MEDICATION USED FOR?
It is used for hay fever, sneezing, runny nose, itching eyes, or hives.
WHO SHOULD NOT TAKE CLARITIN�?
- Anyone who has asthma, other lung diseases, low potassium levels, urinary retention, enlarged prostate, kidney disease, liver disease, heart disease should talk with the doctor begin starting Claritin�.
- Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should speak to their physician before taking the medication
- Children under 6 years of age.
HOW DO I TAKE MY CLARITIN�?
Take it exactly as the doctor prescribed it. Claritin will work faster if taken at least 1 hour
before or 2 hours after a meal. Take each dose with a full glass of water.
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF CLARITIN�?
The most common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, headache, nervousness, nausea, diarrhea,
abdominal discomfort, dry mouth, dry skin, itchy skin or discoloration of urine. Talk with your
doctor or pharmacist if any of these occur or if you are feeling different after starting to
Claritin�.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION
- Notify your doctor or pharmacist if you have difficulty breathing, closing of your throat, swelling of your lips, swelling of your tongue, swelling of your face, rash, an irregular heartbeat, or seizures.
- Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets, instead swallow them whole
- Store Claritin� at room temperature away from moisture.
- If you miss a dose, take it when you realize it. If it's almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take a double dose to catch up.
- Limit the use of alcohol while taking Claritin�.
- Use caution when driving or operating hazardous equipment while taking Claritin�
- Avoid prolonged time in the sun. Use a sunscreen or protective wear.
- Do not give your medication to others. Keep away from children and throw away any unused drug after the expiration date.
